Tunisian Draft law of financial co-operation between Tunisia and Germany
The Commission of Agriculture, and food security, Trade and Services in the House of the People’s Representatives (HPR) examined, on Tuesday 5 January 2016 at a meeting, a draft law pertaining to the approval of a financial co-operation agreement between Tunisia and Germany for 2013.
This financial co-operation concerns the granting by the German Bank for Development and Reconstruction (KFW) of funds to Tunisia amounting to 128 million Euros distributed between loans (121.5 million Euros) and donations (6.5 million Euros).
These amounts will help contribute to the implementation of priority projects in the fields of water management and energy, notably in the inland regions of the country. These projects provide for the integrated management of water resources as part of development of the rural regions to improve the living conditions of local people. The global achievement cost of this integration is estimated at 229 million euros also funded by the state budget.
The same projects include a programme of integrated management of water resources to be funded by a global credit worth 10 million Euros and a donation of 2.5 million Euros granted by the same funder KFW. The priority projects, focus of the credits and participation cited, concern a programme of improving the quality of water distributed in the Tunisian south, with funds worth 40 million Euros. The programme includes the creation of 6 stations of water desalination in the governorates of Tozeur, Sidi Bouzid, Medenine, Gafsa and Kébili.
As regards the programme of photovoltaic energy related to the electricity network, it will benefit from funds under the shape of subsidised credit with an amount of 34 million Euros and of financial participation worth 2.5 million Euros. This programme aims to boost national production in electricity energy thanks to solar energy and its linking to the water network to contribute to cover the request in electrical energy, notably during the peak periods.
