Marine Insurance
Achour Law Firm represents marine insurance companies, reinsurers, brokers, insureds, and regulators in matters ranging from the anticipated to the unexpected.
The two major prongs of Achour Law Firm’s marine insurance practice are corporate, Regulatory & Compliance and litigation.
Marine insurance covers the loss or damage of ships, cargo, terminals, and any transport or cargo by which property is transferred, acquired, or held between the points of origin and final destination. Cargo insurance is a sub-branch of marine insurance, though Marine also includes Onshore and Offshore exposed property, (container terminals, ports, oil platforms, pipelines), Hull, Marine Casualty, and Marine Liability. When goods are transported by mail or courier, shipping insurance is used instead.
We deal with marine liability work, especially charterers’ liability, hull (including yachts), and cargo disputes. As well as handling claims and subrogated recovery actions, we advise on coverage issues, and draft insurance and reinsurance wordings. We also advise and well positioned to represent leading classification societies on reinsurance and liability related matters.
Our work includes acting for underwriters on a host of matters relating to liability, recoveries, coverage and outwards reinsurance. We handle marine casualties. We also deal with marine fraud cases and asset tracing.
We are also in position to advise the shipbuilding, ship repair and offshore construction and energy industries. We also advise on activities such as the operation of drilling rigs, and the construction and operation of offshore fixed and floating structures, including physical loss, third party liabilities and business interruption claims.
We recognise that a casualty may occur at any time. We therefore ensure that legal assistance is available around the clock every day of the year. For major casualties or disasters, our dedicated telephone number is: + 216 25 23 24 01
